June 16-21, 2014
Easels in Frederick has generated tangible excitement every June since 2011, rising quickly to become a plein-air painting celebration and competition of national status. This year the event has expanded to offer the 30 juried artists a fifth day to capture scenes in downtown Frederick and anywhere else they wish within the 644-square-mile canvas that comprises Frederick County.
Watch this talented group of artists—freshly arrived from across the country—in action at their easels. Then see the spectacular results at the culminating Grand Exhibition, where their more than 100 new, original artworks are displayed, judged, and sold.
The Week's Events
- Monday, June 16. Juried artists register at the Frederick Visitor Center, have their canvases stamped, meet their colleagues and host families — and hit the road in search of subject matter.
Monday-Wednesday, June 16-18. The artists set up their easels at the locations of their choice in Frederick County on days one and two, and in either downtown Frederick or its surrounding countryside on day three.
Thursday-Friday June 19-20. Discover the artists in downtown Frederick, sketching and painting on sidewalks, in alleyways and parks. On Friday afternoon, they'll deliver up to four framed works for exhibit and judging.
