Easels in Frederick 2017: A Year for Reinvention!

After six successful years, Easels in Frederick is moving in a new direction! We're calling it Easels in Frederick 2.0—and we're very excited about the possibilities for the next generation of this annual celebration of plein air painting.

An exploratory team has begun the reinventing and reimagining process, and a number of fresh ideas are already on the drawing board. We do know that, at least for 2017, the national-level juried painting competition in June and the associated Grand Exhibition and Collectors Preview will be on hiatus.

Stay tuned for wonderful art happenings,
The Planning Committee

P.S. We welcome the community's help with brainstorming Easels in Frederick for 2017! Email info@easelsinfrederick.org today for more information.

From June 13 to 18, Frederick County and City were the subjects of this year's 30 juried plein air artists at their easels. The artists came from 29 different states, as far away as Missouri and Minnesota, to compete for $14,500 in awards presented at the Collectors Preview Friday night.

On Saturday morning, juried artists shared the heart of downtown Frederick with other artists, both adult and youth, when they had just 2 hours to complete a plein air painting during the Quick Draw contest, vying for more than $2,000 in prizes.

Then on Saturday afternoon, residents and visitors joined the juried artists for the Public Exhibition. Many attendees now own a "piece of Frederick," having purchased eye-catching and original new images of city and county scenes.

Find out which artists walked away winners—and see their prize-winning work!

Easels in Frederick would not be possible without the support of our generous donors, volunteers, and the great citizens of Frederick. THANK YOU!!
