Easels in Frederick — A Juried Plein Air Event

The place to paint
Frederick's historic architecture, scenic streetscapes, quiet gardens and vibrant downtown yield the ideal combination to lure artists out of their studios and into the open. No wonder the inaugural 2011 Easels in Frederick plein air painting event was a rousing success for participating artists—as well as for collectors, community, businesses and The Delaplaine Arts Center, the event sponsor.

Expanded for 2012
Starting June 20, Easels will again offer 30 juried artists the chance to compete for awards—this year totaling more than $15,500. Art devotees and fans of Frederick are invited to stroll the town's charming streets and byways, pausing to watch the artists depict the sites on canvas and paper. Activities throughout the week include Thursday's special contest in a surprise venue and Saturday's Quick Draw competition that has artists painting against the clock for awards—and selling their work right off their easels.

A must for art enthusiasts
The private Collectors Preview Party at The Delaplaine Arts Center promises to be the place to be on Saturday night. As a ticket holder, you'll mingle with the artists and get the first look at—and first chance to buy—the paintings the artists submit for competition. Be there as awards are announced. Plus get the awards judge's insights on plein air painting and why certain works are worth a serious second look.
